About us
Carlos R. and Mary Garcia sold their modest home in San Antonio to purchase the El Chaparral in Helotes on Feb. 2, 1972. It was formerly known as Rudy and Irene's, which had been a Mexican establishment for 24 years.
Little did they know that this little hole in the wall would someday turn into such a world-class destination. Three decades and two generations of experience later, passion still goes into every smiling face and mouthwatering bite that make up El Chaparral.
History - Established in 1972. - We sold our home in San Antonio and moved into the modest living quarters behind the restaurant. Some of our earliest memories are playing in the kitchen with our older sister Jessica and swimming in the creek behind the restaurant. Mom and Papa have since retired, but the two can still be seen from time to time greeting friends and customers. Their commitment to service has never wavered. I still have to come in and say 'Hi' to my customers, says Papa.
